We acknowledge that we stand here today on land that carries the footsteps of millennia of Kumeyaay People. The Kumeyaay are a people who hold a world view deeply founded in harmony and balance in the forces of nature and life. May we take inspiration in the Kumeyaay Spirit to open our minds and our hearts and mindfully maintain relationships between the land and the people. We pay respect to the Kumeyaay People of San Diego – past, present, and future – and honor their continuing presence in their homeland and their spiritual beliefs that land does not belong to people; people belong to the land. May we find inspiration in this land; the land of the Kumeyaay.
